Cautious of the Cards? Don’t be

Making the very brave step to have your Tarot cards read is huge. How do you know what is going to take place if you’ve never had it done before?

Tarot, it must be said, does have a slightly notorious reputation. Many of us are influenced by film and the media, who often paint Tarot as slightly dubious and yet exotic, or even slightly mad.

Tarot is as old as mankind. As with all practices, the unscrupulous or immoral can and have twisted it for their own ends. But the negative is balanced by the positives: real skills and hereditary talent has been passed down in families. Like everything else, it's about finding the diamonds amongst the rough.

Our subconscious is powerful; and the above, allied with often moral or religious misgivings, can be enough to put us off. It is understandable, it really is. And, what about our family and friends? Will they think me crazy for doing this? Will they judge me?

It’s also the bewildering amount on offer, particularly now on social media, which can confuse us to the point of just saying ‘no, this is not for me.’

How can I reassure you here at ‘The Seekers Pathway?’ Well, for starters, I can promise you that you will be welcomed into a warm safe and friendly environment. My number one concern is to put you at ease immediately. Also, it’s about open and supportive dialogue as little or as much as you want.

I promise you that having a reading will give you control and confidence in your own life. I tend to explain to seekers that life bombards us from the moment we wake up, to when we go to sleep (if we can sleep!) If you were to stop to think about the conversations in your day, your annoyances, pleasures, doubts, the trips, visitors, work issues, family concerns and more, it is a huge canvas of interconnected threads that form your life’s pattern, and, only when you unravel it do you begin to understand your emotions and motivations.

So, what happens? Well, we meet and introduce ourselves. I ensure you have water, that you feel warm and comfortable, that you feel well mentally and physically, and then the cards are shuffled and a spread is selected. After laying the cards, I explain carefully what each means and their connections. Sometimes it comes out slightly oddly (even though it’s English!) because the cards present pictures that form and re-form.

With Tarot, you do not need any prior knowledge – all will be explained, and I go back over the cards to remind you. At the end, you can turn your phone on and take a photo to take away with you if this helps.

As for the reputation of individual cards? Of course, it’s important to address the Death Card or The Devil card: well, Death is a card of enormous cleansing, as Death is, and yes, the Devil is about temptation. The Death card in a reading does NOT signify that a death is imminent – for the reader or their circle. However, it will certainly represent enormous and sweeping change, the removal of the past.

Tarot Readers are not doctors, neither are we counsellors – and this is important. I will not make medical assumptions or suggest mental health practices – there are people out there who do this if that is what you’re looking for. I am not that person. I tell you what I see, and you do with that knowledge what you will.

Tarot represents the story of life – the big secrets as we say, and the day-to-day – the smaller secrets. There are cards representing people, and there are cards related to money, love, thoughts and deeds. Tarot is the story of life. Readings can show dramatic situations, very often they can be just about the daily grind.

As mentioned in other articles on our website, you can use Tarot as a psychological tool, or as a spiritual revelation – it’s entirely up to you. Finally, it is of course, 100% confidential, and remains that way forever. As I often say, the only people who will ever know about your reading are the people you tell.

I do hope this may go some way to allaying your inner fears or anxiety.

When you’re ready, I’ll be here.
